Carpet weaving is akin to farming: it is seasonal, physical, cooperative, and it is aesthetic. To emphasize any single aspect at the expense of any other, to consider design over materials, palette over dyestuff, throws the whole enterprize off balance, just as overplanting drains a field of nutrients. The problem lies in conceiving the rug as a flat surface,a picture, instead of the way people really experience a rug, through seeing and touching.

Mindful of this pleasure, Woven Legends obtains hand-spun yarn, made from long staple Karaman sheep wool, from nomads in Eastern Turkey. Coarse and irregular, dyed with natural dyes, the materials enhance the stark visual designs of the Yatak, comparable to the minimalist style of tulu, gabbeh and Dazkiri weavings,
while creating an entirely unique effect: rug as sculpture; hearth rug; bed rug.

While some of these finely knotted carpets are one of a kind, many designs can be ordered through a stocking dealer.
